In 2005, the work of the Hat Museum, an emblematic enterprise for S. João da Madeira, was completed, or it was not intended to preserve the memory of one of the activities with more history in the county.

That same year, the old Paços do Concelho was rebuilt, as Hall of Culture, where the Historical Archive of the city was installed and several other "valences", among them a gallery of exhibitions. The auditorium, with capacity for about 200 people, hosts concerts and performances by various local and national groups.

This is where the São João da Madeira Theater Festival takes place annually in April, in a partnership between the City Hall and the educational community, especially the Open Space project of the Serafim Leite School. The Hall of Culture are also the stage of the Musicatos cycle, an initiative of the Music Academy and the local authority to promote young artists from the region.

In both equipments there were available auditoriums that are important poles, together with the Municipal Library Dr. Renato Araújo, from the campaign Poesia à Mesa, an initiative of great popular adhesion that, since 2003, brings poetry to meet people, every year, in March.

With the first aim of promoting reading as an indispensable mechanism for information, learning and knowledge, the "Poesia à Mesa" Campaign has been promoting a number of initiatives in this field, involving the associations and institutions of the municipality.

The requalification of the former Cinema Imperador building, completed in 2012, allowed this building to be transformed into a modern and multifunctional House of Creativity, unique in Portugal, designed by the architect Filipe Oliveira Dias.

Oliva Creative Factory, in addition to the creative companies established there, houses another of the cultural spaces of reference in the city and in the North region of the country: the Art Center, where it is possible to appreciate works from two extraordinary collections: "Norlinda and José Lima" And "Treger / Saint Sylvester". In these huge facilities where Oliva - the iron industry giant - once operated, there is also a dance school, an area for indoor events (the Hall of Ovens) and shops of the area of creativity.
